Anti-Money Laundering Compliance: A Matter of National Security

BWC members William Jannace and Alma Angotti coauthored a recent Global Financial Markets Institute (GFMI) article examining how anti–money laundering (AML) compliance has evolved from a financial-sector concern into a broader national security issue. As illicit finance continues to grow in scale and complexity worldwide, their piece argues that AML frameworks must adapt accordingly—moving beyond traditional compliance and toward a more integrated, security-focused approach.

Their findings and recommendations were recently discussed during an Eisenhower School Dean’s faculty brown bag event, highlighting the urgency of addressing AML not just as a regulatory obligation, but as a key pillar of national and global security.
