In a recent interview with CNN Business, BWC Member Heiwai Tang discusses the potential reasons why Chinese companies are increasingly expanding overseas. Tang explains how international expansion is a natural step companies take within large, growing economies to expand business and influence. He also claims that China is experiencing a deflation cycle due to impacts of COVID and overaccommodation among private companies. Tang explains the external pressure faced by China due to geopolitical circumstances have caused many Chinese companies to seek to expand in order to reach western markets. With Chinese international exports reaching a record-breaking total revenue of $11.5 trillion in 2025, Tang encourages economists to pay attention to the impact Chinese-company overseas expansion continues to have on both China and global economy.
