In a new Council on Foreign Relations article, BWC Member Heidi Crebo-Rediker proposes an innovation-centered strategy to reduce US reliance on China’s dominance in critical minerals. Rather than trying to outspend China on mining and processing, she calls for investment in innovation, substitute materials, recycling, and stronger allied coordination. Altogether, she outlines policy recommendations aimed at strengthening U.S. mineral security through technological advancement and collaboration.
