New AI Models Risk Economic Amnesia

In a new OMFIF article, BWC Member Udaibir Das shares his concerns with using artificial intelligence as a source for economic history. As AI models tend to rely on recent history rather than longer time periods, he fears that overuse of AI could leave policymakers unprepared for certain financial stress. In his words: “AI excels at identifying correlations within a defined dataset, but economic and financial cycles do not always conform to short-term trends or linear progressions.”
