BWC member Miguel Schloss’s latest article in the Global Journal of Science Frontier Research outlines the global progress that has been made towards transitioning to renewable energy and the steps that still need to be taken to lower greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero.
The three key drivers that Schloss identifies are public policy support, technology advances, and market-driven solutions. Public policy support examples include the US Inflation Reduction Act and the European Union’s Net-Zero Industry Act. Regarding technology advances, only two of the fifty-five technologies that are required to achieve net-zero by 2050 are on track. This means that investment in technology will need to increase significantly in the next two decades. The international community will also need to increase investment in renewable energy in emerging economies to achieve net-zero.
