Christopher Chan is a seasoned finance executive with over four decades of experience in global investment management and central banking. Most recently he was Chief Investment Officer of Public Markets at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), where he oversaw the fixed income portfolio and Tactical Cross Asset Allocation (TAA) strategies within the Exchange Fund Investment Office. He joined the HKMA in 2015, initially as Head of the Asset Allocation Division, where he led the development of a comprehensive three-tier asset allocation framework for the Exchange Fund. He frequently speaks at different international sovereign wealth fund forums, central bank reserve manager roundtables, and major international investment symposiums.
Prior to his public sector tenure, Chan spent 27 years at JPMorgan, where he held various senior roles across the treasury and investment businesses. His final position was Asia Chief Investment Officer, overseeing the bank’s investment portfolio and asset/liability management across the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition, Chan is Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Master of Science in Finance and BSc in Quantitative Finance programs at CUHK Business School, where he also works as an Adjunct Professor in Finance. Previously, he was also an Executive Board Member of the Hong Kong Treasury Markets Association and Chair of its Market Practice Committee, overseeing the post GFC HIBOR review.
Christopher holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Santa Clara University.
