The McKinsey Global Institute recently published a new report on the importance of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in shaping global energy production and AI development. Written by Tiago Devesa, Jeongmin Seong, Oliva White, Nick Leung, Michael Birshan, Jan Mischke Camillo Lamanna, and Masud Ally, the report identifies FDI’s potential to help pivot global energy sources away from oil to transition toward energy in order to improve manufacturing infrastructure. McKinsey predicts that increased investment in energy will help facilitate the development of AI, other new industries, and technological developments that require power. McKinsey forecasts that FDI projects could more than quadruple battery manufacturing capacity outside of China and make the U.S. a leading producer in the semiconductor market.
