In a recent article, BWC Member Elizabeth Shortino highlights how US involvement in the IMF serves the country’s best interests. To that end, Shortino also notes that the IMF could stand to refocus its priorities, keeping their original core mandates at the front of mind. Despite some claims, cost of participation for the U.S. is low, and forfeiting this participation would, “not only squander one of its most valuable international economic tools but would also open the door for China to play a lead role in an institution that has long supported US interests.”
