Who is the Governor?

“A central bank is only as good as the person it lets act.” In a new article posted by OMFIF, BWC Member Udaibir Das explores the Indian film Governor to depict the importance of governmental leadership within a country’s economy. According to him, it is often individuals in government that are able to offer the most credibility during times of economic crisis. He explains how when markets, treasury, and politics lack public trust, credibility often falls to the individual in the position of the governor. He claims that a central bank’s law is only as credible as the person allowing the law to act. He concludes that the judgement and care of a single person has more impact on developing economies than the central bank is able to. Therefore, the person elected to the role of governor is central to the future of the country’s economy.
