FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Washington D.C. – Nov. 6 / Singapore – Nov. 7)

The Bretton Woods Committee (BWC) and DBS Group are jointly organizing the inaugural Future of Finance Forum 2022, held on November 7 from 9:00AM to 12:30PM SGT at the National Gallery Singapore.

The Forum, situated between the Singapore Fintech Festival and the G20 Leaders’ Summit, will convene public, private, and multilateral leaders to discuss the catalytic role of fintech in the global financial and monetary system. This year’s edition is the inaugural conference of BWC’s new flagship Future of Finance Forum to be held annually in the Asia-Pacific region. “There’s no better place to hold this inaugural event than in the dynamic fintech hub of Singapore, and no better partner than DBS Group who is a financial services leader in innovation,” said BWC Executive Director Emily Slater.

This year’s Forum titled Digital Dynamics and the Global Financial System will explore how digital technologies are re-shaping the financial services system and revolutionizing the global financial architecture. “Many areas of the current system could be made more efficient. DeFi technologies provide opportunity for progress in a number of important use cases, such as cross-border payments, trade finance, digital identity and KYC, but guardrails are lacking in terms of governance and regulation. These need to be put in place as soon as possible,” stated William C. Dudley, Chair, BWC.

“Web 3.0 technologies – blockchain, digital currencies and decentralised finance - are here to stay. While they offer great promise, suitable regulatory frameworks will be key in enabling their growth and giving market confidence to all involved. Across the globe, however, it is clear that regulators have a multiplicity of views, with some on varying ends of the spectrum. This underscores the complexity of the issues at hand, and it is our hope that today’s forum – drawing on the experience of key regulators and private sector practitioners – will help advance what will be increasingly important conversations to the future of finance,” said Piyush Gupta, CEO, DBS Group.

The Forum features a high-powered and prominent agenda of fintech regulators and practitioners who will explore how the rapidly evolving fintech ecosystem can make the system more inclusive and efficient, while at the same time considering how to effectively regulate it to minimize risks.
